Munich, 22.10.2019. In May 2019, a Lufthansa customer experienced a shock.
Her Miles & More account with the airline had been hacked by strangers and her collected airline miles had been debited.
The damage has not been repaid to date.

"We have filed a lawsuit on behalf of our client. If it is not possible to reach an agreement on the contingency date, we will continue to pursue the damage plus interest against Miles & More in court," says István Cocron, lawyer at CLLB Attorneys at Law.
The plaintiff is a member of the loyalty programme "Miles and More" and as a frequent flyer has collected several miles and achieved Senator status. However, the miles are gone after unknown persons hacked her Miles & More account in May 2019 and deducted the miles as vouchers. The damage amounts to 2,280 euros.
The plaintiff was not at fault for the hacked account. She had not communicated her access data to anyone. Apparently, however, the perpetrators had managed to gain access to the account via a data leak. Miles & More even admitted this by e-mail in June 2019. "Although our client reported the hacker attack immediately and Miles & More is apparently responsible for the data leak, the company still refuses to pay for the damage. Therefore, we will now sue for the damages in the amount of 2,280 euros plus interest," says lawyer Cocron.
Hacker attacks on Miles & More accounts are not new. As early as 2015, hackers had cracked frequent flyer accounts, deducted miles and redeemed vouchers. "Apparently not all security gaps have been closed. It is therefore beyond question for us that Miles & More must compensate for the damage," affirms lawyer Cocron.”
